I will not deny the dissonance. I know for many of you the current state of our community make it feel impossible to think beyond this current heartbreaking moment. I personally am having a very hard time thinking constructive 'future thoughts.' (Although I'm really good at doom spiraling!)
But I just can't give up on whatever comes next. This current moment isn't the end and if I have anything to do about it, there's gonna be singing wherever we're headed. So this Winter Crash Chorus registration is my own hopeful act; my own determination that joyful, supportive community singing be forever and always part of our collective future. This is your invitation to join me in that hopeful act. And lord knows our nervous systems could use some singing right about now.
I'm loathe to even say it but IF we do have to cancel or reschedule to spring/summer for any reason, we'll deal with it and y'all will be refunded. I think you probably know me well enough now to know I'm not gonna take your community singing money and vanish to Tahiti or something... As heavenly as Tahiti sounds right about now.
Ok! That's the real talk of the heart.
Gosh I hope y'all are doing ok.
HERE'S HOW THE CRASH CHORUS WORKS
Over the span of 6 Sundays
– we'll laugh / we'll cry / we'll sing
– we'll have one potluck
– we'll have optional post-choir hangs at Merlin's Rest on Lake St
– we'll learn 5 choir arrangements of secular songs, most of which are original arrangements by K+K founding director Rachel Ries. In the winter '26 session we're singing Brandi Carlile, Sia, Lianne La Havas and more.
– and on the last day, we'll sing 'em for any friends and family who want to listen!
6 Sundays, Feb 15 - Mar 22
3:30-5:30 & 7-9pm
We rehearse in an accessible and welcoming church in SE Minneapolis.
Location provided upon session confirmation.
Who's this for?
The CCC is for YOU if you want to sing modern, secular pop/rock/folk/indie songs in 4-8 part harmony in a room full of other harmony-lovers in a low stakes environment. No experience or mad chops necessary. If you've participated in our Open Sings, think similar songs + one or two more complex ones that we can pick apart over the course of the session.
How do we learn the songs?
While we do use sheet music in session, sight-reading is by no means required as you'll also be provided with audio reference tracks for all the songs. The audio tracks are a great tool if you prefer learning by ear. Once you sign up you'll be provided access to a GoogleDrive folder with all the sheet music and audio reference tracks so you can pre-game. All music will be printed and provided for you at the start of the session.
How much does it cost?
Everyone has a different level of financial ease so we employ a mutual aid dues structure. If you're able to contribute more, that helps balance out for those who need to contribute less. The sessions are a sliding scale of $120 - $300. This goes to cover
- the 4 of us on staff
- rehearsal space rent
- printing copious amounts of sheet music (so much toner!)
- sound equipment
- insurance
- the creation/notation/multi-track recording of original, unique arrangements, developed just for the Kith + Kin Chorus Community
- and the endless hours of fiddly admin needed to organize and execute an experience like this.
Need to do a work trade or barter? We love that! Please get in touch directly for those options or with any other financial concerns. Email rachel (a) kithandkinchorus.org
What if I have to miss a week?
It's definitely going to be the most rewarding, fun and community-building if you can make it to all 6 evenings! However, we all know life gets messy – no stress or shame if you have to miss. And only good times when you can make it!
Helpful tidbit: week to week each session will cover the same material so if you've signed up for the evening chorus but have a conflict one week you could always pop into the afternoon session instead.
